How A Phone Changed My Way of Learning

I was in seventh grade when I got my first phone.  I could finally relate to my friends and keep in touch with them.  I can’t even remember the brand of the phone but it was flat and thin and I thought it was so cool!  All I could do on the phone was text, call, and play a little game of pool with disastrous graphics (but it was still fun).  I couldn’t browse the internet or view images, I didn’t have access to books or news sources.  The world was practically still the same with a phone; I got everything I needed from the same sources they had always came from.  Now, I could just talk to anyone at any time.

It wasn’t until I got an iPhone 3.  That was a game changer.  Now, I could go on and on about the history of phones and how they came about but it wasn’t until I, myself, and practically everyone on earth had the iPhone 3 that the world of knowledge could really be grasped in the palm of your hand.  You could have anything and everything at your fingertips, even though it was slower than a sloth.  Sadly, I didn’t care about learning in high school.  I only cared about playing soccer, video games, and hanging out with friends.

Thankfully, I grew up.  Now as a 24 year old, my phone is a huge part of my life.  Again, I could go on and on about what I use my phone for but I want to focus on one major thing and that is learning.  Think of how much time we spend driving in cars, how much down time we have waiting for a meeting or even time we have that we tune out of conversations at the dinner table with your in-laws (I’m just kidding… kinda).  There is SO MUCH TIME.  Most of that time we waste on social media, games, or fake news (joke).  I’ve finally fell in love with audio books, TED Talks, religious commentary, and educational information and it has changed my life!  I spend time learning instead of spend time wasting.  I’ve honestly felt my mind grow just by listening to a few different things here and there.  Not all of my education comes from school any more.  All of this comes from a simple little device that typically rests in my pocket called a smart phone.

There is always a time and place for music, games, and social media.  I still keep those things in my life, especially music.  But, I’m extremely grateful for jumping on the knowledge bandwagon and taking advantage of my time.  I’ve come to love it.  I hope that each of you readers will, if you haven’t already, taken the time to find a book you want to listen to and turn it on in the car.  You’ll be glad you did.

Are there any audio books that you like?  I need recommendations!  Comment below and share this post on Facebook!
