Tech To Monitor Babies

We all care for our babies and are extremely involved in their health.  As a soon to be father of a baby boy, my wife and I have spent much of our free time researching and looking into baby products for all sorts of reasons.  We tend to spend the most time, though, on health products that can help us, the parents, make sure that our baby is safe, healthy, and well taken care of.  Here are 2 products that I found interesting and that I’ll compare for certain reasons.  Let’s take a look at the first one…

Owlet Smart Sock 2

Owlet is a brand that’s here in my local Utah area.  They are a company focused on smart technology for your babies and children.  Owlet is designed by parents for parents.  They have already built a Smart Sock (learn more here) and have been building on the award-winning design of the original Owlet Smart Sock.  It comes from parent feedback on the first Smart Sock.  The Owlet Smart Sock has been used by more than 80,000 families, with nearly 200 billion heartbeats analyzed.

Some of the Owlet Smart Sock 2 features and enhancements include:

  • Improved bluetooth range, up to a 12x increase (100 feet), between the Smart Sock and Connected Care Base
  • A more secure fit – better sock design
  • Easier, more intuitive sock placement, meaning fewer false notifications due to more accurate sensor placement
  • Better app for mobile devices – making an improved user experience
  • Advancements in firmware and hardware to reduce false notifications
  • Updated fabric sock can be worn on both feet, allowing parents to alternate as needed.

Nod

Nod is an app that provides parents with kids who are 36 months and under – sleep coaching tips. The app helps parents set up their child’s nap time and bedtime schedules, track their sleeping and feeding activity and receive personalized recommendations about how to improve sleeping habits.  It’s basically a parent’s best friend!  Tired parents can use this to help improve their babies sleep.

To help change your baby’s sleep with the best recommendations possible, Nod will look at your baby’s sleep and feeding activity over the course of time (mainly 1 to 2 weeks). You can track anytime and anywhere with Nod and even share your babies results with others.  Another thing that’s so nice and helpful is that the app is free!

Now, time to compare!  Both the Owlet Smart Sock and Nod are two completely different tech products that have different purposes.  I’m going to approach this from the simple perspective of what’s most important to the parents and what’s easier on the wallet.  I’m not suggesting that one product is bad whatsoever.

The Owlet Smart Sock is my choice for a tech product that is not only highly valuable to have but convenient.  The price is up there but it’s well worth the investment for your childs health.  Owlet is constantly improving their craft and will only continue to develop more safe products and monitors for babies.  I’d suggest buying both of these tech products if you can, but the first purchase should be the Owlet Smart Sock.

What other baby tech products are out there? Any that you use? Let me know in the comments and send me any relative links so I can do some research!
